2000 Custom KISS 44 One Off
Here is an easy to sail day sailor with near race boat performance.
Bagatelle was designed as an easy to handle day sailor, a not too serious racer, and occasional cruiser.
Here is a boat that you can get underway in 10 minutes and put it away in 10 minutes. A self tending, roller furled fractional jib. A big roach main sail that roller furls around the boom. Drop the main and furl it in 30 seconds. You can easily single hand Bagatelle or invite 6 or 7 friends along to enjoy near race boat performance. Bagatelle helm is extremely light and she will steer herself if the wind is forward of the beam.
Like to race? You can race Bagatelle with an active crew of 4 and in a lot more comfort than you will find on most race boats. Bagatelles PHRF rating is 93 which is a fair rating at 12 TWS, she is under rated over 15, especially off the wind where 13-14 knots is not unusual. She is over rated under 7 TWS but a flat light air code zero improves her light air performance.
L Francis designed a couple of boats he called " Maine day boats". Quite Tune was one. Big day sailors with enough accommodations so that you were having a really good sail you could keep on going, drop the hook, stay overnight and return the next day or next week. I like that concept and designed Bagatelle with that in mind.
She has two comfortable 7 foot settees and a drop leaf table in the main cabin and two 7 foot pipe berths forward. A well equipped stand up galley, head with standing head room and a separate shower/wet locker. The navigation area has standing head room with a large charting area, chart plotter and another ice box for drinks and drawers for storage, 8 opening hatches. Not lavish but comfortable.
